Abstract
The world-wide use of computers for newborn screening and testing is reviewed, and the lack of follow-up in a large number of programs is discussed with emphasis on the US. The reasons for this situation are examined. It is suggested that US federal funds be made available to ensure wider distribution of currently used computerized tracking systems and development of methods for tracking newborns from birth through follow-up
