Abstract :
Switching from traditional light bulbs also called incandescent bulbs to CFLs is an effective change to everyone in Bangladesh can make right now which will help to use less electricity at home and prevent greenhouse gas emissions that lead to global climate change. In order to save electrical energy government already has taken steps to supply 80 million compact fluorescent lamps and about 30 million compact fluorescent lamps are already supplied. Besides, many compact fluorescent lamps are available at local markets. As a result, the using of compact fluorescent lamps is increasing day by day in our country but it is a matter of great regret that these compact fluorescent lamps are greatly bad impact on human being, environment and power quality. So in near future Bangladesh will have to be faced many problems. Recently, many concerned organizations as well as individual scientists have taken this issue into consideration. The topics of this paper will review recent scientific evidences related to possible health hazards, environment pollution and electrical power quality problem of compact fluorescent lamps. It is also an attempt to make the reader aware of threat to human life and ecosystem caused by compact fluorescent lamps.
