Abstract :
Current-sensing power MOSFETs (SENSEFETs) provide signals proportional to the device current which can be used for overcurrent protection and current feedback. The authors describe an experimental DC-to-DC converter using a SENSEFET switch. The method of processing the sense signal and designing the current feedback is explained. The characteristics of the current sense signal are studied for a converter supplying both an R-L load and a motor load. The current-sensing power MOSFET is suitable for such applications as current regulated power converters and motor drives
