Abstract
The authors describe how knowledge-based planning may be used in defining data-oriented control information for a robotic assembly system. A control system assisting the effective utilization of assembly equipment including a sensory subsystem in a precision assembly unit is described. With knowledge-based solutions the information for controlling and monitoring the assembly task is generated in advance as an assembly plan, in which the use of sensor modules and other assembly equipment is included. Details of intelligent planning and programming are discussed, and experimental results are presented.<>
