Abstract :
Today we are living in information driven era. In the information age, there are different types of data attributes which are critical. Every organization is looking for a reliable solution so that data of the company is maintained safely and is available & accessible to everyone. For competent management of business process, computerization is must in today´s scenario. At SAIL (Steel Authority of India Limited) Satellite Township and at RDCIS (Research and Development Centre for Iron & Steel) office complex, the civil and electrical maintenance activities are outsourced to contract parties, selected through Open Tender Enquiry basis. At SAIL Township, the execution of the jobs is being carried out against the requisitions received from the occupants, and similarly at RDCIS office. The existing problem is that there is no software developed for capturing the records of civil and electrical jobs carried out by the parties and no proper system to account the bill details and recovery details. Timely accounting was not possible, because all the calculations were done manually. In this regard, a project was taken to develop new software for both civil and electrical maintenance management for addressing the above problems and implement the same at SAIL Satellite Township as well as at RDCIS office. The project comprises of database design, application design and development of software for storage and retrieval of the maintenance data through user friendly interfaces. The developed software also has mechanisms to avoid tampering of data. The software has been developed with 3-tier approach. The software tools used are Oracle Designer, Oracle Database and Oracle Developer Suite. The software has been deployed with Oracle Application Server on Windows Operating System. This software has been developed to capture records of civil and electrical maintenance activities carried out at township and RDCIS office premises. The paper discusses about database design, a- plication design and development of software for capturing employee details, annual rate contract details, contractor details, employee quarteroccupancy details, requisition details, taxes & accounting details, procedures for calculating cost details, recovery details etc, various MIS report, Role based access mechanism for securing the data. This paper is based on the challenges faced in the design, development and implementation of Maintenance Management System software for Construction & Maintenance (C&M) department, of RDCIS, SAIL, Ranchi.
