Abstract :
In this paper, the applicability of a power coupler designed based on the infinite wavelength phenomenon present in composite right/left handed transmission lines is investigated. The coupler is used as a power divider at 2.36 GHz. Results show excellent output power balance for two examples of the power divider. One has equally spaced output ports while the other has non-uniformly spaced output ports. Filtering characteristics of the coupler is shown to reduce oscillator phase noise by 10 dB for 10 KHz offset and provide harmonic rejection. The power combining function of the coupler was demonstrated using free running transistor oscillators. Results of mutual frequency locking are shown as well as external injection locking.
