Abstract
Inconsistencies exist in the expressions for sensorless speed estimation of DC motors in various papers. These inconsistencies have propagated through the literature and continue to do so. Starting from the electromagnetic principles, this study is specifically devoted to deriving the correct expression for sensorless speed estimation of DC motors. The general formula of sensorless speed estimation for all kinds of DC motors is proposed and the special expression for DC motor with simplex lap windings is derived. An experiment is carried out with a 2 pole-pairs and 16 commutator-bars´ permanent magnetic DC motor, which supports our results.
