Title :
How smart can a car be?
fDate :
29 Jun-1 Jul 1992
Abstract :
Is it possible to build a car that can find its way around town or across the countryside? What are the requirements for this vehicle? Would it be safe? Would it be allowed on the road? How would it be used? Who could afford it? What are its major components? What off vehicle environment would be required? What is still unknown? How will neural nets help? What will it look like? Will it work night and day and in all weather? When will mine be ready? This paper attempts to answer a few of these questions. It attempts to identify some issues in understanding whether and when smart cars could be produced for personal private transportation
