Abstract :
The study of ion drag pumps appears appealing because of the possibility to have a pumping device without moving parts. The “classic approach”, in this scientific sector, to the definition of the static pressure of such pumps has been demonstrated to be, some times, in error. The here presented work evidences, on the grounds of “ad hoc” experiments performed on a one stage ion drag pump, the basic cause for such errors: the assumption that the working fluid, under no flow conditions, could be considered at zero velocity, i.e. its viscosity could be disregarded
