Abstract :
The CYC Project is a research project whose goal is to build a large, real-world knowledge base. Knowledge is entered into the system by knowledge enterers called `cyclists´, using the CYC user interface. The CYC interface is not designed for the naive or casual user, rather it is designed to enhance the productivity of the expert. The author traces the history of the interface, and explains how specific tools allow the cyclist to add knowledge effectively. She discusses the knowledge server architecture which allows several cyclists to work on the knowledge base simultaneously
