Abstract :
A new modular, cost effective, strictly transparent wavelength interchanging cross-connect (WIXC) architecture, which utilizes only single pumped parametric wavelength converters, has been proposed. The benefits from the possible use of four-wave mixing (FWM) in semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) based wavelength converters in WIXC architectures, such as ability of reconfigurable operation and realization simplicity, have been discussed
