Abstract :
Novel modelocked semiconductor lasers are used to impact high speed data links and signal processing technologies by the unique combination of ultrashort optical pulses with multiwavelength generation from modelocked semiconductor diode lasers. The authors present results on the development of these lasers with emphasis on: 1) ultrashort pulse generation for OTDM applications, 2) intracavity spectral shaping for multiwavelength generation for hybrid WDM/TDM applications, 3) robust all optical clock recovery for parallel optical switching functionality and 4) low amplitude and phase noise for high speed, high resolution optical sampling applications
