Abstract :
Early limitations of PC hardware pushed EDA vendors to concentrate on point tools. The disappearance of these limitations made possible an integrated EDA product which allowed a new way of designing a circuit. Removing conversion and translation steps saves time and reduced errors. Most important, providing concurrent access to all facets of the design allows the designer the freedom to make important trade-offs. This results in a better circuit. Software cannot take advantage of the hardware advances by simply making point tools bigger. To qualify as truly integrated, an EDA product must provide concurrent access to all facets of the circuit, and cover the whole design process from start to finish. Only by meeting these criterion can EDA software offer a new way of designing circuits which is faster, less error prone, and results in a better end product
