Abstract :
The model suggested by G. Cooperman (1981), when applied to a wire-duct electrostatic precipitator in clean-air conditions, gives good agreement with a charge-simulation model (CSM) and with experimental results for the electric field at the duct surface. Furthermore, the agreement improves as the wire-to-duct spacing increased. This model is extended to include dust loading in the precipitator and to calculate the voltage-current characteristics. The results show good agreement with the CSM for a wide range of conditions commonly encountered in practice. The value of the electric field strength at the surface of the plate is shown to be related to the wire-duct spacing (h) through a proportionality which varies from square root h to h, depending on the dust loading.<>
