Abstract :
An impedance network model for open field range site attenuation using dipoles has been constructed. From the network representation, a compact equation is developed in which the site attenuation is entirely a function of the self and mutual impedances of the transmit and receive dipoles and their terminating impedances. The results from this model compare very closely with the results of modeling by several other researchers, and with the data available from a large number of ranges. The network model is not dependent upon one particular method of calculating self and mutual impedances. The induced EMF method, the method of moments, or any other method calculating the self and mutual impedances of dipoles may be used at the discretion of the researcher. An interesting feature of the network model is that it demonstrates unification and continuity of the radiated near field and the far field
