Abstract :
Cross-talk and shielding effectiveness measurements were conducted to (1) provide baseline cross-talk and shielding effectiveness data, (2) evaluate various ROI design options, and (3) define future efforts aimed at quantifying the ROI design process from its current qualitative (engineering judgment) approach. ROI wiring systems have proven to have higher reliability and improved maintainability compared to random wiring harnesses. Cross-talk and shielding effectiveness measurements indicate that no degradation in EMC/V (electromagnetic compatibility or vulnerability) performance should occur when ROI wiring systems are used in place of random wiring harnesses. Because wire geometry is fixed, a cross-talk simulation program that provides accurate cross-talk predictions can be developed. In addition, shielding effectiveness should be predictable
