Abstract
Improved compact (less than 2 dm3), low weight (less than 1 kg) and low power (less than 5 W) electronic circuits for large window area (20 cm2) Gas Proportional Scintillation Counters (GPSCs) with an ellipsoidal grid have been developed for the detection of solar X-rays in balloon born experiments. The electronics consist of amplification stages, modular power supplies, including a 6 kV detector supply and a circuit for optically coupling the detector pulses to ground. X-ray spectra demonstrating the performance of the GPSC with the compact electronics are presented for 109Cd and 241Am X-rays. The system energy resolution for 22.1 keV is 4.7% and for 59.6 keV is 3.7%
