Abstract :
A new technique for initializing an adaptive equalizer is proposed and analyzed. This technique, called synthetic initialization, synthesizes additional training symbols from a training sequence. The training sequence is thus effectively lengthened without any additional transmission overhead. Synthetic initialization can be used with any adaptive algorithm, and is easy to implement. Simulation results show that this new technique is very effective in improving the performance of adaptive decision feedback equalizers for indoor wireless communication systems such as the wireless local area network
