Abstract
This paper presents a new MAC protocol for real time traffic in wireless ATM networks. The channel BER in wireless environments is varying 10-5~10-2. Previous schemes based on powerful FEC have combatted this noisy channel condition at the cost of valuable bandwidth. As they were designed to maximize the channel efficiency, they were not appropriate for meeting the QoS requirements for real time traffic in wireless networks. A new MAC protocol proposed in this paper is designed to guarantee the various QoS of real time traffic while keeping the bandwidth waste at a minimum. The proposed protocol is based on the adaptive error control scheme
