Abstract
Biotechnology is in great need of low-cost intelligent biochips for massive parallel detection of biomolecular interactions, using portable instrumentation. One way this may be achieved is to exploit mature semiconductor technologies for the development of biosensor arrays. Thin film transistor technology in particular can play an important role in this rapidly expanding field. TFTs can be applied either as potentiometric sensors for the detection of different biomolecular interactions or as circuit elements for conditioning and read-out of signals of promising label free electrical detection techniques such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
