Abstract :
A left-handed multilayer super compact bandpass filter is proposed and demonstrated by means of full wave electromagnetic simulation and equivalent circuit analysis. The left-handed filter has a centre frequency of 1.35 GHz and 28% fractional bandwidth with passband insertion loss less than 0.3dB and return loss better than 13 dB. The size of the filter is about 1 mm2. At such frequency range, the same filter using conventional technology has the size at lease around a few square centimetres. Space saving in the order of two to three has been achieved. In addition, this report demonstrates that a step improvement in miniaturisation of RF/microwave components can be achieved using the proposed multilayer left-handed metamaterials.
