  • Abstract
A photonic transport network that has the capability of network restoration requires QOS supervision and connection management based on overhead processing. The Gbit/s interfaces that will perform such functions must be implemented on a practical scale (power, size, and cost) especially when it is to be used for WDM optical path transport networks. This paper proposes low-power small-size Gbit/s interface technologies based on low-power LSI technology and small-size multi-chip-module technology. Integration of these down-sizing technologies can economically achieve scale reductions of between five- and ten-fold, and will play an important role in creating network restoration capability for optical paths
