Abstract :
As a developing country in Asia, Bangladesh is trying hard to meet the challenge of fulfilling the ever increasing energy demand and ensuring electricity connection to every household in every part of the country. In case of remote islands it is hard to provide electricity from the national grid due to heavy cost of transmission lines and other complexities. Distributed Generation by small power plants at or near the loads could be a solution. But in islands there are many renewable energy sources like solar energy from photo-voltaic panel along with nano-antenna, wind turbine generator, biogas and tidal energy. Analyzing the problem and identifying the local resources, this paper investigates the prospect of introducing a hybrid power generation system for an island in Bangladesh through the economic cost analysis of different renewable energy sources.
