Abstract
This paper presents a novel method for design of output filter of low-voltage/high-current buck dc-dc switching regulators subject to load-transients. The method is based on use of acceptability boundary curves (ABC), which provide contour of regions in the space of parameters corresponding to commercial components which ensure acceptable output voltage ripple and load-transient surge. The new approach allows to figure out most convenient design solutions by using inductor current ripple as an optimization parameter. Examples regarding buck converters for point-of-load applications are discussed to highlight flexibility and reliability of method.
