Abstract :
The behaviour of the dynamic high-tech markets is difficult to model. Future developments and technology tendencies are surrounded by uncertainties. In this paper some strategic aspects with regard to ASIC adoption are discussed. ASICs, in comparison to standard components, can add value to electronic products by increasing functionality, decreasing the total system cost and making the end products more compact. ASICs have found their place in large companies, where it is more a question of the choice of processing technology rather than the choice of implementation method
