Abstract
SFC (static frequency converter) system has come to be used as a method of starting a large synchronous machine in many industrial applications. In this paper, the new starting algorithms of SFC are proposed about the four quadrant operations including not only the start-up at standstill, the acceleration up to the speed of the rated voltage and the field weakening to reach the rated speed but also the synchronization to main AC power system and the dynamic braking to stop the machine safely within the machine rating of the synchronous motor. The experimental results show that the proposed several algorithms are proper and effective.
