Abstract :
Since 1995, Nortel (Northern Telecom Ltd.) has made several environmental achievements, including: a lead-free interconnection technology; use of a nonhalogenated flame retardant for printed circuit broads; and a reduction in the diversity of plastics in telephones. In 1997, Nortel decided to consolidate these achievements into one green design research project, using a telephone as a predictive model. The purpose of this project was: 1) to develop new environmental design process metrics; and 2) to cascade environmental technologies into the design process. A life cycle analysis was completed to identify, new technologies or processes for cost reduction
