Abstract :
This paper presents the proposal of an optical sensor for the measurements of level and volume in oil tankers tanks. It is based on computer vision and uses the coordinates of three points located at the top of the liquid to measure its height. If the final sensor will be composed of only one camera, a calibration step, involving two cameras, is necessary in order to determine the coordinates of each point by triangulation. In this paper, we illustrate the principle of the proposed sensor and give some experimental results of measurements.
