  • Abstract
In this paper, a design method of PI (-D) controllers for delay time processes is proposed. Unlike reduced-order-model based tuning methods, the desired closed-loop response can be accomplished regardless of process order and damping nature. The success of the proposed algorithm is based on the solution of the linear equations which are obtained from the characteristic equation and sensitivity function. The method has no limitations regarding systems order, small or large time delay, and monotonic or oscillatory behaviors. The design procedure seems to be simpler, effective and enhanced performance of the processes can be expected. The designed controller is applied to the real time pressure system as well as simulation examples to demonstrate its effectiveness and applicability.
