Abstract :
Computer analysis has been used to investigate electrical and physical properties of the birdcage coil used in MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). These studies are based on electrical circuit analysis using SPICE software and on Biot-Savart calculations of the radiated RF field distribution. Significant results include verification of resonance mode peaks according to the Brillouin formula and determination of a nonlinear dependence of RF field homogeneity on number of column elements in the coil. These studies are aimed at providing an improved theoretical understanding of the relation between performance and the electrical and physical parameters of the MRI coil device.<>
