Abstract :
Ridgelet transform is introduced as a new multiscale representation for functions on continuous spaces that are smooth away from discontinuities along lines. It can express images of straight edges with sparse coefficients perfectly. In this paper a zerotree coding method based on ridgelet transform is proposed for static image compression, which inherits the successive approximation thought of the wavelet zerotree coding algorithm, and suits lossy and lossless compressions and progressive coding. A form of flag and a preferential finding strategy are also introduced in the sorting and refining process of ridgelet coefficients. Experiments show that the proposed method can obtain high compression rate and image reconstruction quality for images with straight linear edges.
