Abstract :
A new dynamic channel assignment algorithm suitable for adaptive array antennas in a cellular system is proposed. In using this algorithm, stronger co-channel interference is cancelled by the directional beam pattern with a higher priority. With a 3-element array antenna, the conventional algorithm shows a 2.7 fold capacity increase compared with an omni antenna system, whereas the proposed algorithm shows around a 3.3 fold capacity increase, at the point of the 3 percent blocking probability. The simulation results also show that a shorter reuse distance can be achieved by the proposed algorithm, which indicates a more efficient utilization of the channel resource
