  • Abstract
The rapid expansion of AMLCD business has been based on the growing personal computer market. AMLCDs are primarily expected to be the advantageous replacement of the cathode-ray tube (CRT) which has been offering picturesqueness and high content information at affordable prices, corresponding with the developments of communication technologies like high definition TV (HDTV). From this prospect, the displays with AMLCDs would have to be improved with respect to brightness, viewing angle, image quality, color rendition, larger screens, low power consumption and low cost. The author presents an overview of the business market for AMLCDs and discusses emerging technologies which affect the successful developments of the AMLCDs. The topics discussed include the developments of polysilicon TFTs, and the use of LCDs in personal digital assistants, vehicle information and communications systems and LC-TVs
