  • Abstract
A numerical approach to analyze optical waveguides is discussed using Fourier series expansion method combined with the Chew´s perfectly matched layer (PML) scheme. Since the fields inside the PML are described in term of a single complex-coordinate-stretching parameter, the formulation of problems and the matrix equation to be solved become much simpler compared with those based on the Berenger´s PML model. The numerical example for an optical waveguide-diffraction problem demonstrates that the convergence of solutions is significantly improved by using the present approach.
