Abstract
This paper presents a theoretical study of photonic bandgap microcavities in optical waveguide with improved performance of Q factor and transmission. The length of the microcavity and the diameter of the air holes are finely tuned. Numerical results are obtained using 3D finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. It is shown that for certain desired resonant wavelength, the Q factor and transmission can be optimized by tuning the length of the cavity and the diameter of the two inner most air holes.
