Abstract :
The introduction of packet data transfer over cellular radio systems will be yet another milestone in the development of wireless communications. Success of the technology will, however, depend on the operators´ enthusiasm to deploy the system and the users´ experience about the service performance. This paper presents the achievements of TDMA based packet radio standards development and describe the path that has led to the converged TDMA packet radio standard. After the overview of the key features of the technology, this paper addresses efficient re-use planning and novel ideas for control channel arrangements. The results of the evaluation of the proposed deployment are shown
