Abstract :
In order to achieve ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless communication between LSI´s, a CMOS Gaussian monocycle pulse (GMP) transmitter with on-chip integrated antenna was developed. The GMP data were transmitted from one CMOS to another by way of a high dielectric constant (k=38) film which was inserted under the CMOS chips as a dielectric slab waveguide. The integrated antenna having the bandwidth of 23 GHz was fabricated in the copper damascene interconnect level of the CMOS. The Influence of the dielectric slab waveguide on transmission gain between CMOS-LSI chips was investigated. The GMP whose center frequency was 10 GHz was generated by the CMOS transmitter circuit. 2 Gbps GMP was successfully transmitted and received between two CMOS chips with on-chip antennas.
