Abstract :
CMOS scaling is currently facing a technological barrier and research needed to find possible alteration of CMOS Technology to continue the pace of Moore´s law and at the same time researches around the world, involved in finding a disruptive technology to replace CMOS. Single-electronics is a nano-electronic disruptive technology which is built on the capability to control and do useful work with individual electrons. A standard transistor (MOSFET) in the latest CMOS technology uses thousands of electrons at any given moment in its on state. Single-electronics harbours therefore the promise of ultra-low power electronics and further miniaturization. This paper deals with a detailed study of SET device, its characteristics and circuits implementation in comparison to CMOS device. The SET device is used to implement the Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) and using the SET based QCA cell, many other logic gates and circuits are simulated. The simulation results are shown. The paper will implementing a 4 input Look Up Table (LUT basic unit of FPGA) using SET based QCA and CMOS technology to demonstrate the implementation of complex circuits with the QCA technology.
