Abstract :
The purpose of this paper is to summarize the results of a recent stability study involving the Amtrak 25 Hz traction system from New York to Washington D.C. This paper presents a unique approach to power system stability analysis. The steps used for this study involved machine testing, advanced model development (frequency converters and locomotive loads), and simultaneous modeling of the 25 and 60 Hz systems using a standard load flow and stability analysis program. The results show that the Amtrak 25 Hz system is robust from a stability point-of-view
