Abstract :
Often, the efficiencies of electrical motors determine the overall costs, i.e., the production and operating costs of a drive. Those costs are defined and discussed with an asynchronous motor as an example. The various possibilities of improving the efficiency of three-phase induction motors are discussed influences on and improvements of the sample motor are given in numerical values. In addition to the raw material, different production techniques and the requirements of drive engineering are considered. Variable-speed induction motors are examined and suitable improvements are suggested. Single-phase induction motors are discussed
