Abstract :
New database models such as deductive databases (DDBs) and object-oriented databases (OODBs) are at the forefront of research in next-generation intelligent database systems. Object-oriented programming and design methodologies hold great promise in reducing the complexity of very large software systems in such domains as computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), integrated office information systems, and artificial intelligence. OODB systems will enhance the programmer/user productivity of such systems. It is predicted that the 1990s will be a multiparadigm age for database. Research and practical applications of OODBs will be in the forefront, but many other application specific database models will be investigated
