Abstract :
The present work investigates the chaotic response of a nonlinear two-degree-of-freedom ground vehicle model. The disturbances from the road are assumed to be pyramidal wave and multifrequency. Numerical results show that the responses of the vehicle model could be chaotic. The routes from quasi-periodic, period-doubling with Neimark-Sarker bifurcation, period-doubling, leading to chaos, respectively, are discussed. With the bifurcation phenomenon detected, the chaotic motion is confirmed with Poincare maps and phase diagrams. The results can be useful in dynamic design of a vehicle.
