Abstract
A description is given of the functionality and implementation of the authors´ prototype object-oriented database (OODB), Jasmine. Requirements for supporting engineering tasks and the OODB approach to them are discussed focusing on management of constraints such as description, satisfaction, and maintenance. This is called the constraint object-oriented approach. This has been realized in a prototype intelligent CAD system, called HyperCAD, which consists of more than one hundred classes defined by Jasmine
