Abstract :
The infostation concept has been proposed to provide convenient and cost effective access to high-data-rate mobile data services. An efficient IP packet transmission protocol is required to compensate for the high error rate inherent to fading radio channels. A novel link layer scheme employing ARQ (automatic repeat request) is proposed and its performance is analyzed in this paper. This new ARQ scheme adapts to the channel state and achieves a high throughput even when the probability of a packet error approaches 50%. The numerical results show that it provides higher throughput than other comparable ARQ schemes
