Abstract :
Parallel interference cancellation (PIC) has been found to be a promising multiuser receiver algorithm to achieve significant improvement in the performance of CDMA systems. The performance of the hard-decision parallel interference cancellation (HD-PIC) multiuser receiver in channel coded CDMA systems is studied in this paper in frequency selective fading channels. A single user as well as a simple multiuser joint decoding (JD) are compared. Partial interference cancellation (PC) in conjunction with joint decoding is also studied. The results show that the PIC clearly outperforms the RAKE receiver both in terms of receiver performance and system capacity. The joint decoding in conjunction with a PIC receiver can further increase the system capacity significantly with the price of increased receiver complexity. Partial interference cancellation is useful at high SNRs if the channel estimation accuracy is superior
