Abstract :
The idea of flexible power allocation for the physical control channel in wideband CDMA (WCDMA) system is presented. The idea is to flexibly control the power offset between the control and data channels based on the desired reception reliability and required quality of the control information. Also the number of soft handover (SHO) branches affect the optimal setting of these powers. The power offset between control and data channels (bits) can be used independently of the multiplexing principle, i.e. either when the physical control and data channels are I-Q/code or time multiplexed. In this paper the idea is however applied to the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB) RTT proposal to the ITU submitted for the IMT-2000 selection process, where in uplink I-Q/code and in downlink time multiplexing are used
