  • Abstract
Based on the enterprise capability and co-evolution theories, an extensive investigation on mechanical and electrical businesses has been conducted in China. The goal is to explore the process of business transformation to the platform-based B2B e-commerce model. The investigation shows that the transformation process can be divided into four stages. The development of enterprise capability and the change of external environment make difference at each of the stages. A process model of business transformation from traditional model to the platform-based B2B e-commerce model was therefore proposed. The interactions between external environment, enterprise capability and business transformation were explained. Authors hope the proposed model could be useful to both the theory and the practice of business transformation in China.
