Abstract :
Fundamental properties of magnetoelastic wave and magneto-impedance effect in FeSiB amorphous wires are studied. The technique of efficient driving and pick-up of the magnetoelastic wave, and its propagation property are reported. As an application of the magnetoelastic wave, a distance sensor is fabricated. It detects a distance from 0 to 5 m with an accuracy of 1 mm. As for the magneto-impedance effect in FeSiB amorphous wires, impedance change is observed from the annealed wires. The magneto-impedance effect in FeSiB wires depends much on the tension of the wires, which is attributed to a large magnetostriction in FeSiB amorphous wires
