Abstract :
A novel zero-voltage switching/zero-current switching (ZVS/ZCS) single-cycle resonant converter (SCRC) family based on the ZVS/ZCS single-cycle resonant switch is proposed to complement the ZCS/ZVS SCRC reported by J.G. Cho and G.H. Cho (Proc. ISPE, pp. 259-66, May 1989: IEEE Trans. Ind. Electron., vol.38, no.4, pp.260-7, Aug. 1991). These SCRC families are similar in characteristics to full-wave ZVS and ZCS quasi-resonant converter (QRC) families. However, SCRCs are capable of achieving ZCS/ZVS operation from no-load to full-load as opposed to the limited load range in QRCs. Also. the degrading efficiency of full-wave QRCs under light load condition is improved in SCRCs. The operation, analysis, and design of SCRCs are much simpler than those of QRCs and are discussed. The DC conversion characteristics and small-signal transfer functions of SCRCs are similar to those of their PWM (pulse-width-modulation) counterparts. Experimental results supporting the proposed concept are included
