Abstract :
It is widely focused on by the global researchers that distributed generation (DG) can enhance reliability of electric power system. This paper presents an impact study on a DG connected to the distribution networks and proposes rooted tree to model DG island separation according to the radial structure. The directed properties of rooted tree are adopted to reduce the solution space from exponential to linear. Depth first search of edge-weight rooted tree is to determine proper splitting points to split the entire interconnected distribution network into islands ensuring generation/load balance and satisfaction of transmission capacity constraints when islanding operation system is unavoidable. The verification of the intentional islanding scheme is proven with simulations on 7-bus and 69 bus test system.
